Four Care Essentials

There is no single cleaning method for every pet accessory. These four habits provide a reliable foundation without risking delicate fabrics, protective finishes or electrical components.

01

Read the label

Check the care tag, product manual and material information before washing, soaking or applying any cleaner.

02

Use gentle methods

Begin with a soft cloth, suitable mild soap and manufacturer-approved cleaning methods. Test discreetly where appropriate.

03

Dry completely

Allow washable accessories to dry thoroughly before your pet uses them again; keep moisture away from powered parts.

04

Inspect for wear

Look for cracks, loose seams, fraying, sharp edges and damaged fasteners. Replace unsafe items rather than repairing them temporarily.

A note on safety: Cleaning instructions vary by product. Do not use essential oils, harsh disinfectants or unfamiliar chemical treatments around pets without confirming that the product and method are appropriate for animals.

Grooming & hygiene

A Cleaner Grooming Routine

Brushes, combs and grooming accessories come into close contact with your pet's coat and skin. Gentle, regular maintenance can make everyday grooming more hygienic and comfortable.

  • Brushes and combs: Remove trapped hair after each session. Clean with an approved method and let them dry fully.
  • Trimmers and grooming electronics: Switch off and unplug first. Clean blades and attachments only as directed; never immerse components unless specifically rated for it.
  • Towels and grooming cloths: Launder according to their care labels and store dry, away from damp grooming areas.
  • Replace worn tools: Bent teeth, damaged bristles or corroded attachments may cause irritation.

Pet-first reminder: Stop a grooming session if your pet shows discomfort, pain or unusual skin sensitivity. Consult your veterinarian when needed.

Bowls & hydration

Freshness at Every Meal

The small details matter.

Bowls, slow feeders, mats and water accessories are part of your pet's daily routine. Cleaning them consistently helps keep mealtime welcoming.

  • Food and water bowls: Wash regularly with a method safe for the bowl's material, then rinse well. Refresh drinking water every day.
  • Slow feeders: Clean grooves and channels carefully so food residue doesn't collect in hard-to-reach spaces.
  • Feeding mats: Wipe up spills promptly and wash when the material permits. Let mats dry fully before reuse.
  • Fountains and filters: Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and replacement intervals; never assume all components are dishwasher-safe.

Sleep & comfort

Keep Comfort Beautiful

Pet beds, blankets, crate mats and washable throws work hard every day. Their materials and inner fillings may need different care, so check instructions before washing.

  • Removable covers: If machine washing is permitted, follow the specified temperature, detergent and cycle.
  • Foam inserts: Many should not be machine washed or submerged. Spot-clean only when allowed and let them dry completely.
  • Blankets and throws: Remove loose hair first and wash according to the fabric label.
  • Raised cots: Check frames, support points and mesh for weakness before each use.

Finish with care: Return bed covers and mats only when fully dry. If filling, seams or support structures are damaged, discontinue use.

Everyday adventures

Ready for the Next Walk

Harnesses, collars, leashes, coats and travel accessories should feel comfortable and remain structurally sound. A short inspection before each outing can reveal wear that isn't obvious at first glance.

  • Leashes and harnesses: Check stitching, webbing, hardware, buckles and adjustment points. Retire gear that is frayed or insecure.
  • Fabric and padded accessories: Spot-clean or wash according to their care instructions. Air-dry when required.
  • Dog boots and coats: Remove mud and debris, clean gently and inspect soles, straps and closure systems.
  • Identification tags: Ensure attachment rings are secure and printed or engraved details remain readable.

Fit matters: Recheck sizing as your pet grows or changes weight. An accessory that becomes too tight, loose or abrasive should be adjusted or replaced.

Play & enrichment

Care for Curious Minds

Scratching furniture, cat trees, chew toys, wand toys and puzzles invite movement and exploration. Keep them clean and inspect them often so small damage doesn't turn into a larger risk.

06 / Cat trees

Cat Trees & Scratchers

Remove loose hair and surface debris. Check wall anchors, platforms, posts, wrapping and screws for stability. Replace weakened structures, exposed staples or heavily frayed material. Keep scratchers dry unless their instructions specifically allow wet cleaning.

07 / Interactive toys

Toys, Puzzles & Chews

Inspect toys for detached pieces, loose squeakers, broken seams, splinters and worn ropes. Clean only with a method suited to the material. Discard damaged toys, supervise interactive play and put away string or feather wand toys when not in use.

Use common sense with chews: No chew toy is indestructible. Match toys to your pet's size and chewing style and remove them once they become unsafe.

Smart accessories

Care for Connected Essentials

Automatic feeders, fountains, electronic toys and other powered pet accessories bring convenience into everyday life. Their motors, charging ports, sensors and removable containers may require separate cleaning processes.

  • Disconnect power first: Turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning unless its instructions explicitly say otherwise.
  • Protect electronics: Never soak motors, batteries, power adapters or charging ports that aren't rated for water exposure.
  • Clean removable parts: Follow model-specific directions for hoppers, bowls, nozzles and water containers.
  • Check safe operation: Test moving parts and safety sensors after reassembly; stop use if wires, seals or mechanisms are damaged.
